    Great explanation of BI - cuts through the layers of vendor hype.

    One area where you could comment on is how in the Essbase/OLAP world, the dimension members (like customers) are actually structural metadata whereas it is considered (key) data in OLTP. So that there is implicit relation and joins between cubes via common dimension members. This is a frequent source of confusion so your always concise description would help.

    I went to an IBM SPSS conference a couple weeks back. It was still mostly hype. This is after they gobbled up a few analytics companies in addition to SPSS.
