Now that I have my iPod Touch, I am continuing my search to find what it may take to get into the new killer app (in my view) for BI, which is multi-touch. I've said that BI UI is boring, but what would make it exciting aside from multitouch? Well, that's what I'm thinking about, now that I have a little spare time between gigs.
Today I dropped by a custom audio designer joint here in the South Bay and listened to music for the first time in quite a while. The guy there had a sweet setup with a couple monoblock McIntosh amps hooked up to some B&W speakers. He played a digital source which was absolutely divine. I told him of my ideas and he pointed me towards a couple vendors.
Kaleidescape
They had a sweet media server there pumping some pixels through the Fujitsu Plasma. It was actually a fairly large and impressive library, which suggests to me that theres a serious media server behind it. The young guy swears that Kaleidescape is the number one server of its type, and it does look rather impressive. Of course I was immediatel critical of the UI which in this case was sorta iTunes movie-like but controlled by a hand-held remote that looks like a very large cell phone.
AMX
AMX is one of those companies that builds all the kinds of doodads and controllers and servos that you would expect to find in Auric Goldfinger's HQ. What button do you push to flip the pool table? AMX probably makes it.
